Edward Thomas: Poems of Peace and War

Edward Thomas was killed in France in 1917, but he was not a “war poet”. Instead his poetry tells of the personal conflict that took place in his own heart between the harsh demands of the outer world, in which he always felt himself a stranger, and a deep longing for peace within his troubled spirit. This peace he sought continually, but experienced it only in the realm of nature, in the English countryside. This book presents a selection of Thomas’s finest poems, translated into German for the first time, with the English text and illustrated by a new series of evocative drawings by Peter Sullivan.
